Since the primary reason for hiking and exploring at night is to experience the night sky, you’ll want to spend less time looking down at your feet. Choose areas to walk that is well defined with pathways or those in which you are already familiar. The more adept you are in your surroundings, the more you can take in all of the ambiances of the night. It’s always a good idea to bring along your compass, even if you don’t expect to wander off too far from camp. The darkness can become disorienting, so be prepared with the right navigation tools each time you take a hike at night.
